As a new employee at San Diego Sailing Tours and a brand new San Diegan, I recently had an opportunity to go out on my first sail with Captain Allan into the San Diego Bay.

Heading out on my sail, Sierra Nevada in hand and iPhone ready to snap some pictures, I expected to ride out the first part of the trip impatiently until the sun finally went down and I could catch that perfect, envy inducing sunset view that I came for. Much to my surprise, the highlight of my trip was the sail downtown toward the glowing San Diego skyline.

The sunset views were every bit as spectacular as I imagined, but I was stunned by how unexpectedly beautiful the San Diego skyline looked from the water. A recent transplant from small town Utah, I have always preferred my mountain views to big city buildings and San Diego has been downright overwhelming. I’ve fallen in love with the beaches, the food, and the people, but after my sail, I am officially in love with my city’s skyline, and in turn, this city has started to feel a bit more like home.
