Liberty Station was originally a Naval Training Center and welcomed its first Navy recruits in 1923.  Throughout WWII the training center expanded and almost tripled its original size.  This created a good resource for the Navy during times of war due to its ability to hold men and train them for the future. After the Cold War the center wound down and officially closed in 1997.  Then the city of San Diego took ownership in 2000 and declared it a center for commerce, history and art.

Currently Liberty Station has a variety of businesses ranging from art galleries, restaurants, shops, schools, fitness centers, and even hotels.  This spacious area also puts on events such as Beer Fest, Art instillation’s and even a Tree Lighting Ceremony! Recently a Public Market has opened allowing many new businesses to come to Liberty Station. The market states that they “pride themselves on being a forward thinking marketplace on the west coast and aim to offer accessible, engaging, and authentic experiences through use of every sense while exploring the market.”  They are open from 11am to 7pm and encourage everyone to come and try out a new place each time you visit!

San Diego Sailing Tours highly recommends visiting there!
