San Diego is a very active city full of adventurous people who like to stay in shape by participating in fun outdoor activities such as surfing, hiking and sailing. Although there are a lot of activities to choose from in San Diego, we thought we would outline some of the best biking trails for you and your family to explore!

According to our personal experience and the various online reviews, we have a compiled a list with short descriptions of the best biking trails in San Diego. Enjoy!

  • Mission Trails Regional Park – This biking path is full of other bikers and hikers a like enjoying the scenic trail that is full of cacti, scenic views, bugs and wildflowers. There is a visitor center at the start of the trail that will help you pick which trail is right for your skill level. Steer clear of rattlesnakes that could be in the area!
  • Balboa Park – Perfect for a quick and easy afternoon bike ride that it great for the whole family! Cruise around the historic and beautiful Balboa Park for an afternoon and get a mini history lesson on San Diego. Make sure to go to the visitor center and grab a map as Balboa Park is quite large!
  • Missions Bay Park – This is the perfect place for the more seasoned biker to go for a quick ride. With trails that span over 10 miles long, Mission Bay Park is a great place to get a good workout in and is not overcrowded with people running and biking. Because these paths run alongside a beach, this is also a very beautiful and relaxing ride.
  • San Diego River Bike Path – What would a San Diego bike path list be without this mention? This is one of, if not the most popular bike path in San Diego! The path is nicely paved and well maintained and creates a comfortable ride for even the most unsteady of bikers. This path is isolated from the busy roads and is very peaceful. Be prepared for an awesome workout because parts of the path can be quite hill ridden.
  • Los Penasquitos Canyon Reserve – This reserve has some wonderful mountain biking trails that are well maintained and taken care of. There are terrain types here for all different levels of bikers so be prepared to map out your adventure before you hit the trails so you don’t find yourself in over your head. There is even a waterfall that you can bike or hike to in this reserve! Make sure to bring enough water with you as these trails are quite long and rocky.
