San Diego always has fun spots to see, and awesome events to experience! Here are some free ones to enjoy this weekend!
When locals think of La Jolla, they think of The Surf Shack. The Surf Shack was designated as a historical landmark in 1998. This small shelter (pictured above) was originally built in the 1940s by WWII soldiers who enjoyed surfing at the famous WindanSea break. Without its typical straw roof, you can find it located on the rocks overlooking the ocean off the 6800 blocks of Neptune Place. Today, it continues to be a meeting spot for surfers and beach regulars. It’s free to visit, and also a reminder of Southern California’s extensive surf culture.
Check out the closest farmer’s market to you! Little Italy, also known as the Little Italy Mercato, offers produce, hot food, meats, fresh sauces, smoothies, coffees, pastries, and more for sale. The market is open every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on W. Cedar St. between Kettner Blvd. Live music is often being played for you to enjoy while you shop. The Ocean Beach Farmers Market, located on Newport Avenue between Cable and Bacon streets, is open every Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. (to 7 p.m. in winter months). The quirky outdoor market includes dozens of vendors selling everything from fresh, local produce to ready-to-eat dishes and is open from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Yoga classes are great for overall health, but sometimes it can put a strain on your wallet. Fortunately, there are some free yoga classes in San Diego. Get in a good laugh and stretch during Laughter Yoga where a free class is held every Sunday at 9:30 a.m. at the Mission Bay Visitors’ Center. Don’t forget to dress warmly and bring a chair if needed to sit in the grass just south of Visitors’ Center. Lululemon offers free, in-store classes at their La Jolla location, 7835 Girard Street, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. while Corepower Yoga is also a beautiful studio that offers free beginner’s classes!
