Welcome to a new week here in sunny San Diego. Today we are diving a little deeper into the meaning of the name of one of our prized boats. While her full name, Lei Aloha, means beloved child, we thought this snap was a great way to start off the week and discuss the deeper meaning of the word Aloha.

Aloha is used in Hawaii for hello, goodbye, and as an expression of love, but in traditional Hawaiian culture the term also describes an attitude and spirit that we at San Diego Sailing Tours connect with, and greatly admire.

While the history of the word is rich and complicated, within the idea of Aloha is incorporated a sense that we as individuals are all part of a larger whole and that that larger whole is also contained within the spirit of each individual. It describes a desire to protect others and the natural world, and to cherish and enjoy the seas, skies, and mountains we have been given. Lastly and most beautifully Aloha says we each have a mission to live life joyfully together.

Lei Aloha is quite a sight, the spirit of the word Aloha is a quite an idea, and we will take both with us throughout our week. Happy Monday, and may you live this week joyfully together!
