It’s Pride Weekend in San Diego, and there are tons of great events happening all over town! San Diego Pride has been active for over 40 years supporting the LGBTQ+ community and is a fixture here in San Diego.
San Diego Pride started in 1976 with the Center for Social Service’s organization of a parade and potluck through Balboa Park. The 1975 Parade consisted of a 400-person march, while last year’s Pride Parade attracted nearly 100,000 participants and spectators. San Diego Pride is one of the largest Pride celebrations in the United States.
Since 1994, San Diego Pride has existed as a non-profit organization that has raised over $2 million to “foster pride in and respect for all LGBT people locally, nationally, and globally.” Sales of tickets, beverages, and sponsorships help San Diego Pride to provide resources to advance this goal.
The Pride Parade is just one of the San Diego Pride events this weekend. The Pride Music Festival will host multiple stages and tents with vendors and sponsors.
