For those of you who do not go to the beach often, tide pooling can be a really exciting adventure! Most beaches provide all types of marine life but some in particular, are great for tide pooling! What is tide pooling you might ask? Well, when the tide is low formations of rocks are exposed which have salt water trapped in them. This allows the animals that were living there when the water was high, to survive and keep living when the tide is low!  During this time you can walk out and explore these creatures little homes. In San Diego, you can find animals such a crabs, small fish, muscles, sea urchins, and starfish!

Some might ask how to prepare for tide pooling? We recommend you wear shoes that are waterproof because you never know if a wave will come up and get you wet! Another plus to wearing shoes while tide pooling is that the rocks can be rough on your feet and the shoes will protect you from the pain! It is also very important to check when it will be low tide that day. You don’t want to go all the way to the beach just to find out its high tide and you cannot see anything! Lastly, we always want to remind everyone that when you go tide pooling, you are intruding on the animals homes. Treat them with respect and in return, you will have a great time. Feel free to gently touch but never take!
