At San Diego Sailing Tours, we honor the great explorer Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo each week by giving away sailing rewards to one lucky person so that they can experience the San Diego Bay by sea, just as Cabrillo and his crew did in 1542.

Setting sail from the Port of Navidad, Mexico in 1542, Cabrillo and his crew set sail to explore the fabled Strait of Anian, a non-existent water way that supposedly connected the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean.

Although Cabrillo and his crew failed to find such a connection between the two bodies of water, Cabrillo’s expedition did lead to the discovery of San Miguel Island otherwise known as the San Diego Bay.

Due to the beauty and the vastness of the ocean, the San Diego Bay was put on the map by the famous explorer and because of that, we at San Diego Sailing Tours have chosen to honor that expedition each week by giving away either $100 towards any sail or one free ticket to sail four times a month.

All you need to do to be eligible to win is to take a picture with our plaques that will be posted throughout the city, Smile With Captain Kyle, and upload the picture to Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter with the hashtag #thecabrillocandidate. That’s it! It’s that easy!

So please join us in our voyage as we expand our horizons and become a part of history by exploring the San Diego Bay by boat, just as Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo did all those years ago.

Stay tuned for updates on where to find the plaques and begin your quest to become the Cabrillo Candidate!

*Cannot be combined with any other offer and is not redeemable for cash. Applicable only to future bookings and already opened boat tours only. Winners are selected each Friday by the end of the business day.*
