I’m grateful to have recently begun working for San Diego Sailing Tours. One of the job requirements, I was not displeased to learn, is that new crew members are required to experience the awesomeness of our sailing charters, firsthand, in order to work here.

Having never sailed before, I was pretty excited about this requirement! I love the ocean, I do know that. In fact, I recently moved to the San Diego beach, for that reason. Growing up, we used to have a 21-foot (6.4-meter) sport powerboat that we’d use mainly in California lakes, and only once in the sea, but the luxuriously-restored classic sailing yachts owned & operated by San Diego Sailing Tours are, of course, an entirely different type of vessel.

Sailing yachts are better suited for whale-watching excursions, as compared to their powerboat counterparts, as the loud noise of diesel or gas engines only serves to chase away marine wildlife, including whales. Sailing yachts, on the other hand, silently cruise about, observing the whales & other animals, without disturbing them.

I was able to see a pod of whales breaching & blasting air on my very first San Diego Sailing Tours whale-watching excursion. In fact, it was on that first whale-watching sailing cruise that I snapped the photo used in this post (above), as well as this video:

These whales are beautiful, gentle-giants. It was a thrill & an awesome experience to see them live, in their natural habitat, in person, and it’s also a pleasure to work for San Diego Sailing Tours, where I get to book adult & child passengers on a daily basis, to experience & enjoy the same kind of whale-watching sailing cruise that I went on.
