The best parts about the San Diego winter is the sunsets. They are just unpredictably beautiful. They arguably create the best backdrops for memorable photos. And depending on where you are, the setting sky could be reflecting on the water or skyscrapers.

We also don’t have snow, well at least in central San Diego we don’t. It means no snow days (awwww!) but also not shoveling snow out of your driveway and catching some warm sun during December (yay!). If you do like snow, no worries places like Big Bear are a few hours away, and sometimes we get enough snow in Julian to take our boogie boards down the hillsides.

If you’re like me and enjoy being an off-season tourist, primarily because crowds can be miserable, visiting San Diego during December can be a great intimate experience. However, this city is still bustling this time of year, and there is plenty to do. Places like the San Diego Zoo and Balboa Park often have light shows such as December Nights or Zoo at Night.

Also, this is the beginning of Whale Migration Season, where the whales are migrating south for mating and warmer waters. So if you’re thinking about stopping by San Diego in the winter, do so! You might be surprised at how much this city has to offer year round.
